Get Ready for the Season Two Circuit!

The beginning of the Season Two Circuit is fast approaching in North America and Europe! Over the course of the Circuit, the most prestigious live events will award Circuit Points, allowing the participants to advance in the official Season Two standings. At the end of the Season, the top competitors from each region will advance to the Regional Championships, where they will go head-to-head to determine who will represent their region in at the League of Legends Season Two Championship!
Each live event will be worth circuit points distributed across the top eight places. In credit to the accomplishments of our top competitors, we will be retroactively awarding the winners of all Intel Extreme Masters, IGN Pro League, and Major League Gaming events that already took place following the conclusion of Season One. In the case of international competitions, teams can only acquire points for those that take place in their region.
At the end of the season, the teams that have accrued the most Circuit Points will do battle for the right to take on the world at the League of Legends Season Two Championship. There they will compete against the best teams from all regions, including North America, Europe, Southeast Asia, and China for a prize purse worth millions of dollars!

Spectator Mode
We are also pleased to announce that the first public release of our highly anticipated Spectator Mode is now in limited beta. Previously limited to use only on our tournament realm, you will now be able to select this option to spectate a game during designated testing periods. As with our previous limited beta releases, Spectator Mode will become fully available as soon as we are comfortable with its performance.
As a spectator, you’ll be able to jump to the perspective of either team, following the action as they see it. You can even opt to remove the fog of war altogether for a truly global view of the battlefield. Additionally the spectator will be able to quickly and easily reference information on either team such as in-game stats, item builds, gold totals, and ability cooldowns.
While it is currently only available in Custom Games, remember that, like all things League of Legends, there are still plenty of updates to come. Stay tuned for more news on Spectator Mode in future patches.
Spectator mode can be an excellent tool for those players interested in learning more of the nuances of League of Legends gameplay, or for shoutcasters interested in commentating on competitive play. This Saturday at 11 AM Pacific Time, the WellPlayed Rampage Series continues when North American powerhouse Dignitas faces off against perennial European championship contender SK Gaming! Whether you’ve been following this King of the Hill style tournament since the very beginning or you’re just now joining the action mid-series this is definitely one matchup that you won’t want to miss.
Coming off an impressive runner up finish in Intel Extreme Masters Global Challenge New York, SK looks would appear to be a strong favorite going into the matchup. Dignitas, on the other hand, is coming off their recent victory in the IGN Pro League, and has been positively dominating the competition, racking up four consecutive victories here in the Rampage Series. After their demoralizing defeat in the group stage of IEM New York, this young American team is definitely hungry for redemption.
With regional pride and the title of King of the Hill on the line, this promises to be a truly intense League of Legends match! Tune in to the Rampage Series this Saturday, the 22nd of October, at 11AM Pacific Time to watch all the action happen live!

League of Legends is Getting Older!

Here at Riot Games, October is our favorite time of year. And that’s not just because we like carved pumpkins, delicious candy, colored leaves, blustery days, scary stories, mysterious concoctions, and the occasional costume party. It’s because a couple of years ago, around this time of year, we all got together and shipped a little game called League of Legends!
That’s right, summoners! League of Legends is turning two this year, and we’d like to extend you all a cordial invitation to come celebrate this momentous occasion with us. A lot can happen in a year, but we hope that you all agree that League of Legends, like a fine wine, is only getting better with age!
We’ve got a couple surprises in store, so be sure to check back on Thursday, the 27th of October, to celebrate the birth of League of Legends with all of us!

Fnatic MSI Wins IEM New York!

This past weekend some of the best League of Legends teams convened at New York Comic Con for the 3rd installment of this season’s Intel Extreme Masters Series. On the line was a $32,000 prize pool along with the opportunity to qualify for the Intel Extreme Masters World Championships in Hannover, Germany.
Despite a rocky start in this IEM season, it was defending Season One Champions Fnatic MSI that wound up in the winner’s circle without dropping a single game all tournament. “We actually practiced more than before other tournaments,” said Fnatic solo-top player Shushei, “Before [Global Challenge] Gamescom we could hardly play together because of the split.”
With their practice issues resolved, the European powerhouse Fnatic MSI seems poised to reassert their dominance in the competitive scene. But they weren’t the only European team aggressively recapturing the limelight in the wake of the platform split. European runner up SK Gaming also performing perfectly during the group stage, while up and coming French team Sypher edged out perennial American championship contender Counter Logic Gaming for third place.
When we asked why he thought the Europeans fared so much better during this stop on the Intel Extreme Masters Series, Shushei replied, “After the group stage, we felt really confident playing against Americans… Not because they played badly, but because they underestimated our champions.” SK’s CandyPanda observed similar issues. “Cursed and v8 were too inexperienced to really pull ahead, I think,” he replied, “I didn’t notice any crazy meta-game changes from US apart from bot and top-lane swap.”
Commenting on his team’s dominant performance during this event, Shushei declared, “It feels pretty good. We would never expect to come with 7-0 score against the best of the US and EU teams during [IEM New York].” Ever gracious, CandyPanda also congratulated the victors, but also expressed his disappointment in the overall performance of his team. “We were happy [the final] was versus Fnatic since they’re good friends of us outside the game,” he said, “Sadly we all didn’t show our top performance.”
SK Gaming also left us with one final thought in the wake of their defeat at IEM New York. “Our goal is to change the meta game completely,” promised CandyPanda, “There’s coming a pretty big change into the team SK but can’t tell too much yet!” We’ll see if they can make good on those claims with the qualifiers for IEM Global Challenge Kiev fast approaching.
The next and final stop before the World Championships, Intel Extreme Masters Global Challenge Kiev will feature five of the best teams from Europe, two from North America, and one from Asia. There, at the CyberSport Arena, one of the most advanced gaming clubs in Europe, the best League of Legends players in the world will once again convene to compete over a $32,000 prize purse. As the last opportunity to qualify for this year’s IEM World Championship, the competition is sure to be fierce!
